Group Exhibitions

Beat the Silence: Sonic Chronicles is still on view at M.Bassy in Hamburg, Germany until June 21, 2025

Beat The Silence: Sonic Chronicles is an exhibition in which music plays a central role being understood as a tool, creating resonance between the individual self and its social and spatial environment, and thereby having the power to change the world and unite people. The exhibition aims to explore the deep connection between Black visual art and music on an aesthetic, sensual and socio-political level to explore the following questions: What is the historical and contemporary role of music as an artistic medium in challenging a hegemonic and Western worldview and in promoting inclusive and socially engaged critical thinking? What is the significance of music for Black communities as an instrument of connection and resistance? What transformative power does music hold as a means of imagining alternative visions of the future?

Paris Noir is still on view at Centre Pompidou in Paris, France until June 30, 2025

From the creation of the Présence Africaine review to that of Revue noire, Paris Noir retraces the presence and influence of Black artists in France from the 1950s to 2000. The exhibition celebrates 150 artists coming from Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean, whose works have often never been displayed in France before. Paris Noir offers a vibrant immersion in a cosmopolitan Paris, a place of resistance and creation that gave rise to a wide variety of practices, from a new awareness of identity to the search for trans-cultural artistic languages. From international to Afro-Atlantic abstractions via surrealism and free figuration, this historical voyage reveals the importance of artists of African descent in the redefinition of Modernisms and Post-modernisms. Attentive to circulations, networks and friendships, the exhibition proposes a living and often entirely new map of Paris.

I’m Just a Boy will be on view at OOA Gallery in Barcelona, Spain from June 7 to July 6, 2025

I’m Just a Boy revisits the formative years of Black and African masculinity. The show brings together ten contemporary African artists whose works delve into the complexities of growing up male in societies that prioritize toughness over tenderness, performance over presence. Through painting, photography, and mixed media, each artist offers a deeply personal yet collectively resonant narrative, exploring themes of vulnerability, identity, resistance, and care. I’m Just a Boy dares us to see the boy within the man, to witness softness without shame, to hold space for a masculinity that breathes. This is not a retreat from manhood, but a re-rooting. Each work becomes a window into how masculinity is inherited, performed, resisted, and remade. The boy in these works is not naïve – he is watching, absorbing, becoming.

Solo Exhibitions

Modupeola Fadugba: Of Movement, Materials and Methods is still on view at Gallery 1957 in London, United Kingdom until June 29, 2025

The exhibition is inspired by the rich pageantry of the Ojude Oba festival which is a vibrant celebration of Yoruba heritage, honouring the Awujale, the paramount ruler of the Ijebu people. Known for its elaborate equestrian processions, resplendent attire, and deeply rooted communal traditions, Ojude Oba stands as a powerful symbol of identity, unity, and cultural continuity. For Fadugba, the festival becomes both subject and starting point – a site of gesture, history, and living tradition. Her latest body of work reflects a shift in her practice, from water to land, from solitary swimmers to collective choreography, offering a personal yet expansive reflection on heritage and transformation. The series introduces Fadugba’s expanded beading practice, a continuation of her long-standing interest in materiality, memory, and community.
