In Conversation with Serge Attukwei Clottey

Posted in Art Market  |  June 20, 2020
Serge Attukwei Clottey is a Ghanaian artist who reflects on the powerful agency of everyday objects. He explores topics of migration, trade, and post-colonialism through the use of yellow plastic gallons. The containers that travelled from Europe to Africa are initially used to store oil, and then recycled to carry water for domestic usage. After they are thrown away, Clottey retrieves and transforms them into pieces of art that will eventually travel back to Europe to be exhibited.
