David Goldblatt is a South African photographer recognized for his portrayal of South Africa during the period of apartheid. Over the years, he has undertaken a number of photographic essays examining aspects of South African society, some of which have been exhibited and published as books. He recently reflected on the purpose of crime, which in numerous ways has become an overwhelmingly important part of life in South Africa.

South African photographer Jodi Bieber’s work reveals the social issues and the harsh living conditions of people around the world. Her early work focused on the young people living on the fringes of the African society. She has recently captured beauty in the faces of some of the world’s most abused women. In Bieber’s images, the traditional lines that separate intimacy, documentary, and visual art tend to fade and disappear.
